The Bloomington Brands finance associate has the opportunity to work on projects that add general management as well as corporate finance to his or her resume. Such projects not only help the profitability of Osmocote®, but also provide real-world, real-time experience that cannot be gained in the classroom. This opportunity will set you apart as you begin the next phase of your full-time career.

 

Each year, Bloomington Brands seeks one first-year MBA corporate finance major student, who intends to make a career in finance and accounting with a secondary interest in consumer products. This is a professional position that contributes to the strategy and the marketing of the Osmocote® brand as well as handling all CFO/CIO duties of the Bloomington Brands LLC legal entity.

 

Key financial duties include:

• Managing relationships with our public accountant, insurance, and banking professional service providers.

• Partnering with finance and accounting associates at Scotts Miracle-Gro.

• Providing financial analysis of brand marketing activities.

• Preparing the annual budget.

• Executing the monthly and year-end budget close to include preparation of financial statements.

• Managing the Information Technology function.

• Purchasing of office and kitchen supplies.

• Managing the payable’s function.

• Managing other services that may be assigned (e.g., telecommunications, landlord, associate parking, etc.).

 

The ideal candidate should have the ability to work as part of a team, yet should be comfortable working independently. He/she should be ambitious, passionate, professional and mature. The position requires a 12 hour per week commitment during the regular school year. Some travel (to Columbus, OH) may be required.

 

The primary reason for pursuing this position is the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the management of a functioning legal entity. Course credits may also be obtained with the permission of the Kelley School of Business.
